Gifted Testing

What is a Gifted Assessment / IQ Testing?

A Gifted Assessment can help determine whether a child meets the school board’s criteria for identification as Gifted.  A Gifted Assessment is typically conducted in one appointment with a psychologist and includes file review (e.g. report cards), clinical interview with the child and his/her parent(s) and the evaluation of the child’s intelligence through a standardized measure (IQ testing).  For children and adolescents aged 6 to 16, the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fourth Edition (WISC-IV)  may be used to assess general intellectual ability.  For individuals 16 years of age and older, the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale – Fourth Edition (WAIS-IV) may be used to assess general intellectual ability.  If significant socio-emotional or learning factors are identified, a more comprehensive psychological assessment might be recommended to supplement the Gifted Assessment.

How can a Gifted Assessment / IQ Testing help?

Recommendations of a Gifted Assessment / IQ Testing might include placement in a special education program for Gifted children or enrichment activities in the regular classroom or afterschool programming.
